Côte d’Ivoire: Swiss team in Abidjan

July 2nd, 2018|

The Swiss KaziAfya team with Prof. Markus Gerber, Dr. Christin Lang and PhD student Johanna Beckmann travelled to Abidjan and visited the headquarter of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS). Together with Prof. Dr. Jürg Utzinger from Swiss TPH they met with newly appointed Ivorian study coordinator Dr. Sylvain Traoré. Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, Dr. Jean Coulibaly (supervisor parasitology) and Serge Ayekoe (supervisor sport) completed the Ivorian KaziAfya team.
During our visit, we had the unique opportunity to participate in the handing over ceremonies at CSRS when Prof. Dr. Inza Koné took over from Prof. Dr. Bassirou Bonfoh, who was at the helm of CSRS for the past 9 years. The team was also invited to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) as well as the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS), where they presented the planned project.
On the last day of the visit, they visited Taabo with its a rural CSRS branch office. Possible project schools are located nearby. The team was able to visit the local hospital at Taabo and meet with Siaka Koné, head of the Taabo HDSS station. Further present was Séeoua Kranée Adjoua, the local education inspector. She is a key person in recruiting intervention schools and is very much supportive for the planned study.
